POPSUGAR is a leading online media provider for women. With a vast network of content that ranges from entertainment and fashion to motherhood and fitness, POPSUGAR has built a brand that is equal parts viral and informative.
In 2012, POPSUGAR’s fitness content began to experience a boom of interest and traffic. These professionally-produced videos and routines created by fitness experts were great on the web, but what if users wanted to take those routines to the gym? Or anywhere for that matter?
Leveraging a vast library of popular fitness video content, the POPSUGAR ACTIVE app gave users the ability to customize fitness routines, track their progress, and set alerts for their workouts.
After an audit of our fitness content, the information design and user flows were developed to map out the high-level user experience. Then, the UI and brand aesthetics were explored and refined to produce a full experience for iPad and iPhone. Meanwhile, working prototypes were produced to test the functionality of video playback, offline viewing, and custom routine creations.
